Following on from The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan and Little Hope, Bandai Namco and Supermassive Entertainment have announced the third in the series. To be called House of Ashes, this one will take place in the blistering desert heat of the heart of Iraq.

Each Dark Pictures title has a different focus and aims to provide players with a different form of horror. House of Ashes is of the “ancient evil woken deep underground” variety, where you play as Rachel King and a group of elite military forces that raids a suspected underground chemical weapons facility in Iraq only to find nothing there (remember that lie to go to war over oil supply?). Instead, they find themselves in a “nest” of ancient and unearthly creatures, and your job is to try to help them navigate these threats.

As with previous games in the series, it will no doubt be possible to save everyone… or potentially no one, by making the correct decisions and getting through the QTEs that will be thrown at you. And, as with the previous games, expect the online and party play to be a highlight, since horror is always more fun when experienced in groups.

House of Ashes releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2021. To whet your appetite, here’s a teaser trailer.
