It’s that time of year again! The Christmas countdown is a tradition at Digitally Downloaded. Like the advent calendars filled with a chocolate each day, with our Christmas countdown we highlight a game each day that is perfect to help you get through the silly season.

Christmas is a time for family and friends, so it’s a good time of year to bust out the multiplayer games. It’s typically a time that people get some holidays, so it’s a good time to knock off some of those RPGs from the backlog.

More than anything else, it’s a good time for gaming. So grab a game or two from our little list and have yourself a Merry Christmas!

 The 24 Games Of Christmas
Day #18: Splatoon

(Read our review of the game here)

Sure, you could spend your holidays firing gory headshots at virtual soldiers and revealing the Christmas red that flows through the bodies of rebels. We’ve all had that craving for one more match of some online game and there’s really no reason not to give in when you’ve got more spare time than ever.
If you need that shooter itch scratched, though, why not finally give Splatoon a shot this Christmas for an experience that’s far more in tune with the jolly spirit of the holiday? It offers up a simple team sport that’s pleasant and upbeat but never falls into the puddle of decadent violence.

Best of all, it’s a vacation from all the smack talk that plagues just about every online community with voice and text chat. Despite being a game about shooting ink all over the joint, Splatoon is a squeaky clean game families can enjoy together and a darn good game regardless.
