It’s that time of year again! The Christmas countdown is a tradition at Digitally Downloaded. Like the advent calendars filled with a chocolate each day, with our Christmas countdown we highlight a game each day that is perfect to help you get through the silly season.

Christmas is a time for family and friends, so it’s a good time of year to bust out the multiplayer games. It’s typically a time that people get some holidays, so it’s a good time to knock off some of those RPGs from the backlog.

More than anything else, it’s a good time for gaming. So grab a game or two from our little list and have yourself a Merry Christmas!

Day #12: Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival

Look, we know that amiibo Festival isn’t the finest game out there, but it’s an excellent Christmas game, and here’s why; it’s a game that literally everyone in the family will enjoy equally.

It’s a simple, charming board game that allows you to use your own amiibo as your playing piece. And, given that Christmas is a time of year to be playing games together with everyone, from the five year old right through to the grandparents, and that means that simple and charming is the best way to go.

It might well be a game that you won’t then pull out again until next Christmas, but, you know what? There are plenty of board games for which that is true too. How often do you really bust out that copy of Monopoly? There is a role for the board game that everyone can enjoy, and amiibo Festival is one that scratches that itch.
