Mass Effect 3 takes back consoles iOS today

The most highly rated game of the year (and maybe last year too) assaults retail and download services today. Ready for the Reaper onslaught?

ME3 has garnered a ton of perfect scores already from sources as varied as MSNBC, USAToday, and Game Informer. High praise for the endcap to one of the most popular RPG’s in recent years.

Mass Effect 3 is the beginning, middle and end of an entire war to save the galaxy – and the team has held nothing back,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Co-Founder of BioWare and General Manager of EA’s BioWare Label. “The action is more intense and bolder than ever. The level of customization is richer and deeper. The story is incredibly powerful and features the biggest decisions and consequences in the series. Whether you’re a veteran of the series or a new recruit, there’s never been a better time to jump in.”

It’ll be interesting, considering that it’s a Role Playing Game at heart, to see what kind of numbers the game pulls down in terms of sales. It’s got a massive amount of hype that’s for sure, but usually when you’re talking about games that are true ‘blockbusters’ you’re talking action. Usually the term ‘FPS’ is in there too… and lets not forget ‘multiplayer’.

Also launching today (besides the actual Mass Effect 3 game for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC) is the iOS game Mass Effect: Infiltrator. MSI is a third-person shooter from the same guys that made Dead Space on iOS and features a completely new story taking place at the same time as the console games.

Featuring rogue Cerberus agent Randall Ezno, you’ll trek across 9 levels of action and have full access to most of the stuff from the games including biotics and signature ME weaponry and enemies. You can grab Infiltrator (which is a universal app) here for $6.99 USD.

Another little release for ME fans this week is the Datapad app for iOS. There’s no info really on what that is at the moment, but I’d figure on it being a map app/catalog of some kind. It’ll also be free when it becomes available and is expected ‘soon’.

  • Interesting – I hadn't heard about this title, but I have the other Mass Effect on my iPad and it's… different.  More of a top down action shooter.  I was planning to get a review up on it soon. 🙂
