Mass Effect 2’s release on the PlayStation platform had mixed reactions around the gaming world. PlayStation fans were ecstatic, while unsurprisingly many Xbox fans were a bit dismayed as the franchise moved into the multi-platform world. Mass Effect is a series that is not to be missed, and January 18, 2011, North America will get its hands on Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 followed by an January 21, 2011 release date for Europe.

Mass Effect 2 being released on PS3 is a big deal in itself, but not only is Mass Effect 2 coming to retail shelves, it is also getting a day one release on PlayStation Network in North America (unconfirmed for European PSN). This marks the first time a retail PlayStation 3 title will launch beside its retail disc release on PSN, and we think this could become a trend as Digital Downloads are quickly becoming mainstream.
Mass Effect 2 is the first title in the series to release on PlayStation 3, and for gamers afraid that starting out on the second title of this epic series, fear not. BioWare has teamed up with Dark Horse Comics and created a interactive digital comic to catch the gamers who missed out on Mass Effect 1 up to speed quickly, and this comic will allow for all the major choices in Mass Effect 1 to still be made. Upon starting up Mass Effect 2, the choices that were made in the digital comic will ripple through the galaxy in Mass Effect 2, as every choice has its consequences.

With Mass Effect 2 right upon us on PlayStation 3 it’s hard to fathom thinking about Mass Effect 3 already, but Mass Effect 3 will release by the end of 2011 for PS3, 360 and PC. Regardless of the system it’s played on, Mass Effect is an incredible series that sits at the pinnacle of the creative minds at BioWare. The near release of Mass Effect 2 on PS3/PSN has our blood boiling with excitement, and as it’s releasing on PSN, we will have a review with our analysis after launch.
