Gameloft sales figures show strong interest in tablets and smartphones

Download specialist developer and publisher, Gameloft, has had a good start to the year, with consolidated sales of €76.8 million in the first half of 2011, up by 15 per cent from the previous year.

On a constant exchange rate basis, growth was 17 per cent. Europe represented 33 per cent of the company’s quarterly sales, North America 28 per cent and the rest of the world 39 per cent.

At a time where the more traditional games companies, such as Nintendo, have been struggling, Gameloft's focus on smartphone and tablet gaming seems to be paying dividends. Gameloft's first-half sales on smartphones and tables grew by 55 per cent year on year and now represents almost a third (30 per cent) of Gameloft's total sales.

In a release the company has already suggested that it is looking closely at social networks, smart TVs and the next generation of set-top boxes as future opportunities.

Fans of this company's approach to making games can look forward to around 20 more games before the year's end.
