Created by two former Sims developers, Petunia’s Purgatory is a cozy horror idle farming sim that sits at the bottom of your desktop. Grow crops, sacrifice critters, summon helpers to your cursed farm, and keep Petunia’s sanity in check before the game begins invading your desktop. The game will launch for PC in July. (Too bad it’s not for Mac; I could see myself getting obsessed.)
Petunia’s Purgatory features Lovecraft-inspired artwork, giving the cute farming sim a dark twist. This idle game sits at the bottom of your desktop and breaks the fourth wall by invading your actual desktop when Petunia’s sanity suffers. This allows you to keep an eye on the farm and work on other tasks, like the popular Rusty’s Retirement.
Here are the game’s key features, via Dead Possum Games and Level Up Gaming:
- Adorable yet creepy art style
- Plays at the bottom of your screen so you can work on other tasks (total productivity killer)
- Manage your sanity by balancing creepy crops with beautiful flowers
- Mind-bending effects that invade your desktop while you play
- Automate your farm with a cast of odd characters
- Twitch integration: your audience can help on the farm
- Free demo available
“We love idle games, and we love horror, but we didn’t see anything like that on Steam right now,” says Matt Yang, co-founder of Dead Possum Games. “We wanted to find the perfect mix of the two.”
“We wanted to make a cozy idle game that would surprise you when you least expect it,” adds Megan Ginter, co-founder of Dead Possum Games.
Developed by Dead Possum Games and published by Level Up Gaming, Petunia’s Purgatory will be released for PC via Steam on July 16.
