Publisher Yogscast Games and indie developer Longshot Studio have revealed a May release date for retro puzzle roguelike game Infinity Sweeper. Minesweeper meets the modern era in this game that combines classic strategy and nostalgia with the replayability of modern roguelikes. Navigate a familiar grid, uncovering numbered tiles while avoiding mines. Place safe tiles and flag mine tiles to prevent losing a life, of which you get three. The grid is ever-expanding, and a single wrong move can send you back to the beginning.
The grids are procedurally generated, and no two will be the same. After clearing a board, you can choose from a selection of modifiers and permanent upgrades to benefit your run. Individual tile modifiers may change what appears on the board. There are new traps; some alter the board’s format or destroy certain tiles. The end of every fourth stage brings a boss battle, turning the expected gameplay into a time-sensitive test of strategy. Earn gold by clearing the board, then exchange it for upgrades in the game’s shop. Upgrades include single-use consumable cards and permanent upgrades. After each boss stage, new hazards will be added.
Here are the game’s key features, via Yogscast Games:
- Procedurally Generated Grids: Every board is unique and demands a new way of thinking.
- Endless Roguelite Progression: Unlock upgrades after each run, discover tile modifiers and build your loadout.
- Upgrade Systems: Tile modifiers that change what appears on the board, permanent upgrades that shift gameplay dynamics and single-use cards for clutch moments.
- Boss Encounters: Timed challenges to test your speed, precision and nerve under pressure.
- Endless Replayability: No two runs are identical. Every turn provides an opportunity to learn from your failures and improve.
Developed by Longshot Studio and published by Yogscast Games, Infinity Sweeper will be released for PC via Steam on May 7.
