The key art for Anomaly Road.

Developer Liner Studio has announced an early November launch date for its anomaly horror title, Anomaly Road. The escape game is set on a mountain road in Japan; it combines driving with horror and strange occurrences. The location of the road was originally modelled off a real mountain, though some changes have since been made.

Here is the game’s story description, via Liner Studio:

While driving, you suddenly realize you’ve gotten lost on a road deep in the mountains. Something’s wrong with this road. As you turn a corner with a bad feeling, what awaits you…?

So many bizarre phenomena occur on this road: unusual oncoming cars, tunnels with no end in sight, bananas by the roadside, a young man suffering through a series of misfortunes, and more. The game features 60 unique anomalies. The goal is to withstand the chaos of these events. It takes careful observation to escape from this looping road.

Anomaly Road is influenced by media involving liminal spaces, including Exit 8 and Backrooms. The anomalies aren’t all horror-based, so non-horror fans shouldn’t be scared to pick it up: it features surprises, beautiful anomalies, familiar tropes, humorous anomalies, and dangerous anomalies.

Developed and published by Liner Studio, Anomaly Road will be released for PC via Steam on November 6.
