Brisbane developer Chunky Quail has announced that its cozy mushroom-planting exploration adventure game Slumbering Woods will launch for PC in 2027. The team will also be at BitSummit in Kyoto, Japan, from May 22nd to 24th to showcase the title.

“We started developing Slumbering Woods two years ago, inspired by our love of rainforest walks and the incredible ecosystems they support,” shared the Chunky Quail team in a press release. “We wanted to create a world that captures the wonder of discovering strange fungi in nature while also reflecting how fragile these ecosystems can be and how easily they can be disrupted. Turning that inspiration into exploration and puzzle-solving has been an exciting challenge, and we’re happy to finally share the game publicly and bring it to BitSummit for players to experience for the first time.”

After a violent storm separates you and your companions, you awaken in a village being overtaken by fungal growth. To push forward in your journey, help the villagers restore their settlement to earn access to their knowledge, tools, and the hidden paths leading deeper into the fungal forest. The heart of the game is its puzzle-solving. Mushrooms you grow will spread and help reshape the land, but each species has its own needs and behaviours. For example, some open new routes, others block passages or create safe paths through dangerous areas.

Here are the key features of Slumbering Woods, via Chunky Quail:

  • Grow mushrooms that spread across the land and change the environment around you
  • Plant the right mushrooms to solve puzzles and open new paths
  • Help rebuild a remote village to unlock new tools, recipes, and services
  • Explore freely through a mysterious fungal wilderness filled with hidden areas, secrets, and rare resources
  • Discover rare mushroom species and experiment with how their unique abilities interact with the world
  • Gather resources to craft tools for your journey
  • Explore by day and by night to uncover different events, discoveries, and conversations with villagers

She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
