Hyper Luminal Games, Numskull Games, and PASSION Games have announced that heartfelt narrative adventure game The Day I Became a Bird will launch in mid-April for PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. A new trailer about the tender tale has also been revealed. The game is based on the French storybook by Ingrid Chabbert and illustrated by Guridi.

“The heart of this project was always about capturing what love feels like before you really have the words for it,” said Andrew Ruhemann, founder and CEO at PASSION Animation, in a press release. “We wanted to create something that feels like a picture book you can step inside, where small moments and quiet feelings matter just as much as big story beats.”

The Day I Became a Bird follows a small child with big emotions named Frank as he navigates his first crush — Sylvia, who is fascinated by birds. Frank explores the ideas of love, shyness, and self-expression as he journeys through classrooms, playgrounds, and imagined spaces. He will explore, collect, and solve puzzles to capture Sylvia’s attention. The game is described as being “designed to be warm, welcoming, and emotionally resonant, offering a reflective alternative to the fast-paced, high-pressure play that tends to dominate.” It focuses on mood, movement, and emotional clarity rather than more traditional gameplay mechanics.

“When I first imagined Frank’s story, it was always about that very small, very brave feeling of wanting to be seen by someone you really care about,” said author Chabbert. “Seeing it take flight as a game has been incredibly moving. It allows players not just to read about those emotions, but to step inside them – to feel the tenderness, the awkwardness, and the quiet courage of first love in a completely new way.”

There will be two editions of the game available for purchase: the standard edition (the base game) and the Feathered Adventurer Edition, which includes the base game and film, a digital artbook, and an original soundtrack. PC and PlayStation players will also receive the original short film.

Developed by Hyper Luminal Games and published by Numskull Games, The Day I Became a Bird will be released on April 16 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
