Disgaea Creator Sohei Niikawa’s next game is musical action RPG Etrange Overlord. Today, NIS America announced that it is partnering with Gemdrops and BROCCOLI to bring the game West early next year. It will support Japanese voice-overs with English and French subtitles on consoles; PC players also have the option for Japanese subtitles. The game will be released for consoles in Japan on March 26, 2026, so expect both versions to release around the same time.
After being (falsely) accused of assassinating the kind, the sweets-loving daughter of a duke named Étrange von Rosenburg is executed — and finds herself in hell! So she does the only logical thing: tries to take the place over. Indulge Étrange’s insatiable need for sweets to get rewards of temporary buffs and bonuses. She rides, fights, and even sings her way across hell. A revolving lane mechanic sends items, buffs, and characters circling the map. As you progress, you can challenge stages with your friends in a separate 2-4 player multiplayer mode.
Etrange Overlord’s key features, via NIS America, include:
- An Army of Subordinates: As Étrange von Rosenburg, gather a colourful cast of characters from all corners of hell and put them to work as your subordinates! Each lovable character was designed by legendary illustrator Shinichiro Otsuka.
- Chase the Revolving Lane: Shoot, dodge, and slash your way across the battlefield in fast-paced action RPG gameplay, featuring a unique lane mechanic that sends items, power-ups, and even your characters revolving around the stage! Then enjoy the frenetic gameplay with up to four friends in the multiplayer mode!
- Living Your Best Afterlife: Just because you’re in hell doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself! Follow Étrange as she tries to live her best life no matter the circumstances in a far-reaching story with plenty of laughs, heart, and musical numbers!
Developed by SuperNiche/BROCCOLI/Gemdrops and published in the West by NIS America, Etrange Overlord will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in early 2026. A Limited Edition will be available, with more details expected on November 13.
