Bittersweet Birthday is a unique blend of brutal boss battles and heartfelt storytelling. Every encounter is unique. It is planned to release for PC and consoles, but the PC version will launch first next month. The release date announcement comes in the form of a new trailer that reveals new gameplay and cutscenes, focusing on the protagonist’s third central nemesis, Cerie.
Here is a description of the game, via its publisher:
Bittersweet Birthday is a unique blend of brutal, finely tuned boss battles and heartfelt storytelling. Every encounter is a one-of-a-kind fight with multiple phases that demands mastery of movement, timing, and quick thinking, while exploration between battles reveals a world full of secrets, side quests, and colourful characters. Alongside its challenge-driven gameplay, the game stands out with its hand-drawn pixel art, memorable cast, mini-games and an atmosphere that seamlessly balances intensity and charm.
The protagonist, known as Boy, is a young amnesiac prisoner guided by a mysterious voice to escape the mysterious facility where he is hunted to piece together his identity. He encounters three characters throughout the game. The Guardian of a secluded village, Rocc is a hothead who is always ready to face the Great Evil, which nearly destroyed humanity once before. Vega is a singer and guitarist of a band playing a concert in the Guardian’s village, though nobody knows how they bypassed a centuries-old mandate of isolation. The third, Cerie, is the focus of Bittersweet Birthday’s latest trailer. She is a ghostly lady who lives in a long-abandoned mansion on the outskirts of the Guardian’s village. She’s all smiles, even when feeling less than pleasant emotions… even in the face of death.
Developed by World Eater Games and published by DANGEN Entertainment, Bittersweet Birthday will be released for PC via Steam/GOG/Humble/itchi.io on November 11. Release date information for the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series of the game will be announced later.
