Memory becomes gameplay in adventure game Fomography, a story-driven photography adventure. Last year, Dangen Entertainment announced that the game would launch in early 2025. Today, the publisher revealed the release date, set for the end of May. It will launch for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. There is also a new trailer that showcases the game’s central emotional arc, giving us a glimpse at an elderly man piecing together fragments of his life through photographs he took as a boy.
Fomography is a first-person adventure game that shows the world through the lens of this boy’s camera. In the role of an aging man dealing with memory loss, players are transported through recollections of his youth. Solve small mysteries in the wild beauty of Australian forests, mysterious subterranean caves, and a bustling town. Capture fleeting moments and connect with the NPCs, as each encounter unlocks another piece of the protagonist’s past.
The game begins when a young boy receives a camera from his mother. Wanting to try it out immediately, the boy starts snapping photos of his mother in their backyard as she poses playfully. Each shutter click brought joy… until the final snap. With it, the boy’s mother suddenly vanishes. Only silence and confusion are left behind. The boy is instantly whisked to an unfamiliar time and place. He stands in a dim room. A faceless man sits alone in the chair, his identity lost to time. He urges the boy to use the camera to chronicle his memories. Then, the boy suddenly wakes up in a small town full of faceless townsfolk. He is determined to solve the mystery of his mother’s disappearance and the strange world he has entered.
Your camera can be customized to suit your vision, allowing you to choose the perfect lens, filter, and framing. A personal photo album fills up with the snapshots you take, from adorable wildlife to hidden treasures and emotional truth.
Fomography is made by Aussie solo developer Brendan Keesing, who aims to create unique games that focus on philosophical ideas with non-conventional gameplay. It is his first full-fledged solo game release. “Throughout development, I’ve had to come up with multiple personalities to reduce work fatigue,” says Keesing in a press release. “Programmer Brendan works on weekends. Artist Brendan works Monday-Thursday. Designer Brendan works Fridays. And Composer Brendan comes in on a contractual basis.”
Developed by Brendan Keesing and published by Dangen Entertainment, Fomography will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series on May 29.
