Highlights: PC Gaming Show 2023

Too long, and too many games.

The key art for PC Gamer Presents: PC Gaming Show.

Today’s second and final showcase is the PC Gaming Show. It’s definitely better than the Xbox Games Showcase, though that may just be because there’s more games featured (seriously, it’s way too long, after an hour and a half I wanted to tap out so badly and by the two-hour mark I felt like I had lost my darned mind). It’s nice to see lots of indies. There are lots of trailers that look nothing like the games they’re promoting. Everything here is, obviously, coming to PC. I’ve noted via what launcher, as well as if other platforms were mentioned.

Game highlights

Nivalis

If you’ve ever wanted to live in a cyberlunk city (why?) then Nivalis is for you. Making it isn’t easy, though. Gangs want to harvest your organs, you can be fined for breathing, and the ground under your feet is crumbling. Start small with a noodle stand. Build you way up to a bar. A restaurant. A nightclub. Soon, all nightlife will be under your thumb. Choose how to play: run your businesses, form friendships, or explore. Nivalis will be released for PC via Steam/Epic in 2024.

Ebenezer and the Invisible World

I’ve never, not once, thought that the world needed a 2.5d Metroidvania version of A Christmas Carol. Yet here we are. Ebenezer and the Invisible World

Ebenezer and the Invisible World will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox One.

Islands of Insight

Islands of Insight is an epic shared-world puzzle adventure game. It’s set in a peaceful fantasy realm of ancient wonders and natural beauty. It’s filled to the brim with puzzles to solve, secrets to uncover, and landscapes to explore. Play along or with other players. The puzzles are thoughtfully crafted to be both relaxing and challenging, and are key to unlocking new areas to adventure. Islands of Insight will be released for PC via Steam.

Invector: Rhythm Galaxy

Navigate celestial worlds while mastering the beats of today’s most popular artists in Invector: Rhythm Galaxy. Artists include PinkPantheress, Charlie Puth, Duran Duran, and more. Play alone and master every beat, or play with up to three other players locally. There’s a range of difficulty options to choose from. Invector: Rhythm Galaxy will be released for PC via Steam on July 14; it will be coming to consoles later on.

Nova Roma

Nova Roma is a city builder set after the fall of the Roman Empire. Lead a small band of citizens to new land: Nova Roma. It will be a bastion for all that was once good, starting from a humble village and expanding. There must be temples to appease gods and amenities catering to the citizens’ needs. Erect massive damns and aqueducts to control the water. Seek distant resources and build infrastructure to support transportation. Nova Roma will be released for PC via Steam/Epic.

Bloomtown: A Different Story

It starts off adorable, but nothing is as nice as it seems and things fall apart rapidly in BloomTown: A Different Story. It’s a narrative JRPG that mixes turn-based combat with monster taming and social aspects. It is set in a pleasant 1960s Americana world… or so it seems. Emily and her friends will have to save their cozy town from demonic creatures that live in the hearts of its residents. Bloomtown: A Different Story will be released for PC via Steam; it will also be coming to consoles, but specifics have not been announced.

The full showcase

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
