24 Games Of Christmas! Day #22: Football Manager 2022

As has become an annual tradition at DDNet, we are here to help you count down towards Christmas! One new game every day for the 24 days from December 1 to Christmas Eve. Think of it as a kind of Advent Calendar, if you will, giving you new tips and ideas for games to pick up and play at that rare time of year where everyone does have a little more time to indulge their favourite hobbies.

Also, it’s an excuse to post pictures of cute anime girls in Christmas gear every day. I won’t deny that we love doing that too.

Day #22: Football Manager 2022
Football Manager has all-but become an annual tradition for me. SEGA releases it just before the season, I always download the Touch edition to my Switch, and then find myself playing it through most of the holiday. Too much so. But it’s that compelling that I just can’t help myself. This year is no different. I’ve already spent a lot of time playing Football Manager 2022 Touch.

If you’ve never played a Football Manager game before, it can be very difficult to understand the appeal of them. They are, after all, spreadsheet simulators. But then you start to play, and study the statistics of your team to try and work out winning strategies. You’ll find yourself celebrating when that expensive transfer that the fans didn’t approve of starts winning you games. You’ll cheer when your team gets promoted… and then immediately dread the upcoming struggle against relegation. In short, this “spreadsheet simulator” becomes the best example of emergent narrative there is. And it’s impossible to put down.
