The Eternal Castle: Difficulty-as-Art

I really didn’t think I’d love The Eternal Castle. Nothing about it is a “me” kind of game. And yet… This thing is so damned artful in everything that it does that it’s one of the smartest and most interesting games I’ve played in quite some time.

Go in expecting crushing difficulty, and you’ll get that for certain but… you’ll also get a certain mastery of theme, form, and experience that make it one of the best examples of transgressive game design that we’ve ever seen.

Playing The Eternal Castle? It has just released on Nintendo Switch! Check it out if so.
