Square Enix’s best announcement this week didn’t even come from E3

Why this wasn’t part of the Square Enix E3 conference is beyond me, but it was announced today anyway, via Famitsu in Japan. Square Enix subsidiary, Taito, will be releasing a Space Invaders: Invincible Collection on Nintendo Switch.

The collection will contain at least six titles from the Space Invaders library, including one called Space Cyclone, which is being ported to console for the first time. With that being said, to be entirely honest here, all I need is a port of the original, black-and-white, classic Space Invaders. That game is a masterpiece that I will never get tired of, and when I think back to the games I’ve played the most over my entire life, it’s almost assuredly #1. My first memory of playing Space Invaders was at the tender age of five… you think about any game that you’ve never really stopped playing for thirty years.

Anyhow, we haven’t got any further details on this one at this stage… or even if there’s going to be a western release (not that it matters for a game like this – you can play without needing to read anything, so just import). It should have been part of today’s E3 show, but for now, just look forward to more information!
