Yesterday was the Game Developers Choice awards, a staple at the annual Game Developers Conference held in San Fransisco. At the ceremony, Satoru Iwata was remembered through a three-minute animated tribute that spans his career from being a programmer to becoming president and CEO of Nintendo.

The short film is animated by David Hellman, the artist behind Braid, and filmmaker Raber Umphenour. The music is by Shawne Benson, and Wired’s Chris Kohler helped with the narrative.

Satoru Iwata passed away last July at the age of 55 from complications with cancer. I’m certainly not the only one who is still mourning the loss of this industry leader; I certainly appreciated being able to take three quiet minutes to remember him and his career.
