It’s that time of year again! The Christmas countdown is a tradition at Digitally Downloaded. Like the advent calendars filled with a chocolate each day, with our Christmas countdown we highlight a game each day that is perfect to help you get through the silly season.

Christmas is a time for family and friends, so it’s a good time of year to bust out the multiplayer games. It’s typically a time that people get some holidays, so it’s a good time to knock off some of those RPGs from the backlog.

More than anything else, it’s a good time for gaming. So grab a game or two from our little list and have yourself a Merry Christmas!

Day #23: Steins; Gate

Not every game you play this holiday season needs to revolve around swordplay and gun-toting action. Sometimes it’s enough to just kick back on the sofa and read a good story whilst surrounded by a loving family in various states of consciousness.
Steins;Gate might be heavy reading, but when its intense crescendos hit, you’ll be jolted out of your seat. Other times, it’ll have you stewing over the grander ramifications of characters’ actions or just plain laughing out loud at some of the better humour I’ve read in the genre. There’s a bit of everything, really.

Being a visual novel means that Steins;Gate isn’t going to test the limits of your reflexes, but its approach to the time-travel narrative is absolutely worth every second of your extra time.
