The 24 Games of Christmas! Day #12: Battle Academy

It’s that time again! Michael Buble’s smooth voice serenades us over the radio with his brilliant rendition of “Let it Snow.” Houses are covered with bright lights, tinsel, green and red colours. Children anxiously count down the days, hoping they were good enough for a visit by Santa.

It’s a magical time, with one other little benefit – most of us also have breaks over Christmas. Breaks means time to play games!

It has been a great year for games, and no doubt there are some great ones that you’ve missed. And so we at Digitally Downloaded will count down to Christmas with one game recommendation for you each day.

Enjoy, and happy holidays!

Day #12 – Battle Academy
Matt S

Christmas is the perfect time to bite into something meaty, and there’s nothing like a good wargame to sit down and relax with while chillin’ next to the pool (this is Australia, where our Christmases do not snow).

Battle Academy is a really fine strategy game. Coming to us from Slitherine, one of the most well-regarded strategy developers in the world, this game manages to hit a nice balance between rules that you can pick up over the course of a single game, and depth that will challenge you right through to the end of the campaign.

Yes, it’s a premium-priced game, but it’s worth the investment. Even better, it comes with an play-by-mail multiplayer that means that you’ll be able to start a game with someone on the other side of the world, go have Christmas dinner, and not miss a beat.
