Confirming a rumor that had been whirling around, Dark Horse Comics went ahead and announced that it will indeed be publishing The Legend of Zelda- Hyrule Historia.

Yes Zelda fans, it’s exactly what it sounds like. A complete history of one of the oldest and most mysterious universes in all of gaming- Hyrule.

The tome clocks in at 272 pages and is expected to ship in early 2013. Suggested retail for Hyrule Historia is $34.99 USD, but if you pre-order from Amazon that goes all the way down to $20.99 – which is probably just about the cheapest you’re likely to see the hardcover Zelda encyclopedia get.

Dark Horse Books and Nintendo team up to bring you The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia, containing an unparalleled collection of historical information on The Legend of Zelda franchise. This handsome hardcover contains never-before-seen concept art, the full history of Hyrule, the official chronology of the games, and much more! Starting with an insightful introduction by the legendary producer and video-game designer of Donkey Kong, Mario, and The Legend of Zelda, Shigeru Miyamoto, this book is crammed full of information about the storied history of Link’s adventures from the creators themselves! As a bonus, The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia includes an exclusive comic by the foremost creator of The Legend of Zelda manga – Akira Himekawa!

This is a book that’s probably worth getting even if you’re not a Zelda fan. It’s going to be very interesting to see how the troop of four different authors (including Shigeru Miyamoto) managed to weave the complex canon of the series together into one overarching and cohesive history.

Currently the book sits at number three on Amazon’s charts. Anybody think that it won’t bump up to first place before the weekend is out?

  • I can't say I'm surprised, lol. This is a book that Zelda fans (and there are a lot of us out there) have been waiting for for at least the last 10 years – when the timeline started to get really quirky.

    I know I'm getting a copy.

  • This is certainly a want for me. Have only played OoT 3D, Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess, but the series has already won me over!
