PS Vita early bundle announcement

Sony, through its US blog, has announced that Americans will be able to get their hands on a Vita a little bit early, and in a nice bundle to boot.

Called the PS Vita First Edition bundle, the bundle will be pre-sold at select retail locations, starting today. What do you get? The US bundle includes a PS Vita 3G + Wi-Fi model, a limited edition case, 4GB PS Vita Memory Card, and Little Deviants game for $349.99 (MSRP). The Canadian bundle includes a Wi-Fi model, a limited edition case, 4GB PS Vita Memory Card, and Little Deviants game for $299.99 (MSRP).

Oh, and while the Vita itself goes on sale Feb 22, 2012, folks who buy this bundle will be playing from Feb 15.

Good prices, good game, and a memory card to boot? What the heck are you waiting for?

Thanks to forum member, Sgt. Frog, for pointing us to this awesome bit of news.

  • I think this is definitely a smart way to boost pre-order sales. The case won't cost them but pennies I'm guessing, and the game would be like the $1-2 I'm guessing the case will cost to manufacture…unless it's installed on the system already, then the cost is pretty much zero. So, overall, Sony will get an extra $40 bucks on the systems, and people get them a little early…smart business move I think.

  • @Coffee – Agreed. I have a funny feeling the Vita is going to be everything Sony wants it to be in the market this time. So far I haven't seen them put a foot wrong with this thing.

I can't wait to get mine (though I'll be importing from Japan).

  • @GamesAndBiz:
While I think the Vita will do well initially, as with most "new" electronic devices, especially in the video game world; I don't know how well I see it continuing to sell in the long-term.

They're going to have to really show this thing off, and show that it's capable of doing A LOT for the price they're asking. Nintendo sold the 3DS at $250 based on the hype behind it alone, so if the Vita really is a great leap for portable gaming(its size could be a problem for it), I don't see Sony having to drop its price quickly. I think it will be interesting to see how this plays out for everybody.

  • I think the pre-order and bundle is cool. I actually like the canadian offer a lot better though. 🙁 That said, I think it will sell well initially, but it's the game lineup, as is almost always the case, that will make or break the early quarters after its release. Luckily some of the titles they have are pretty well-recognized, especially to Sony fans, and they appeal to different audiences.

  • I ordered the bundle. Played with the system for some time at the NYCC and it's a really nice little console. The graphics are fantastic, I really had the sense I was having a full console experience and not 'just a portable'. That being said though, I'm sad to say I just don't think the market is there anymore for handhelds. Most people I know who play a lot of games, just use their iPhone's or Touch's for on the go stuff.

Hope I'm wrong- especially since I'm getting one. :/
