E3 is always an exciting time of year for us, and 2011 is no different; both in terms of hardware and games this looks like it’s going to be one of the biggest shows yet… which means the next 12 months of gaming is also going to be a whole lot of fun.
So what will Digitally Downloaded be looking at the most? Here’s a preview of some of the games we’re keen to see in action. (And make sure you check out the first part of the piece here)
Some point in your past, your treasured RPG characters, nay, friends that you invested your soul in, are parted from your company due to the aggressive action of an Orc. These tear inducing memories provide enough motivation to make Orcs Must Die a must see at E3. This great dream, the sating of bloodlust draws us at Digitally Downloaded towards the trailer, and its the quality of animation that garners a hunger for further knowledge in regards to gameplay, goals, multiplayer, inventory and many other features.
The viewing of this video had us salivating when first viewed at February 2011 and we’ve have been clutching at whatever scraps have been cast from the Bethesda table since. Just have a look at the startling trailer that has been provided and it can be safely assumed that this will continue a fine tradition of true role playing games, one step closer that holy grail of complete and utter freedom of interaction with environment. It will be interesting to see just how close this has become.
On the other end of the RPG spectrum is the linear epic that will be Final Fantasy XIII-2. Yes, the original wasn’t the most popular game in the world, but that’s not surprising – some people are impossible to please. FFXIII was a big, great looking epic, and we expect the sequel to continue the tradition in style.
Back in the days of the schoolyard, many many debates of geeky design resulted in one undisputed truth. TinTin was awesome. We are unashamed fan. This makes the expectations related to this title high, and, despite the developer classifying the game as casual and its links in to the movie, there is a great deal of pressure on Ubisoft to get everything right.
For the long suffering fans, we’re sure you are aware that this title is going to be released on the 14th of this month, not a whole long time after E3 is happily wrapped up. That being said, it is on the menu, as it were for the event and may prove a tantalising insight. Will the many MANY years prove themselves worth the wait? One hopes so.
By now, EA has the art of making a successful sports game down pat, and despite the FIFA name currently rather tarnished in the real world the games remain of good quality. Whilst not one of the most fervently sought after games, its fans will be very pleased to see its appearance at E3. One can only hope the gameplay has been enhanced, the manager mode is more detailed and we wait to see if bribery is a new option for managers.
