The weekly discussion: all about U… Wii U

1 min read

The dust has settled (well, more-or-less), and we now know almost everything there is to know about the Nintendo Wii U – when it will launch how much it will cost, what games will be available on it.

There’s been controversies, of course. I’m not entirely sold on the console myself, and there’s been an almighty fan uproar over one of the very few Wii U third party exclusives – Bayonetta 2. Fans of the first game apparently are a bit miffed that they ‘have’ to buy a new console to play the sequel to their favourite game.

But those moments of negativity aside, there’s a lot to look forward to – in a few short months we’ll all have our hands on the first console in a new hardware generation!

So, what games are you going to pick up, and what are you looking forward to? Keep it civil, keep it fun, and happy weekend gaming!

  • After watching some of the videos, there's a couple of games I can't wait to test out: Toki Tori 2 looks really great, especially the level designer. It's going to be fun making levels on that tablet, and indeed when it comes to user-generated content, I think the Wii U has an advantage. It's downright painful to make levels using controllers at times.

Bayonetta 2, of course. I wanted Nintendo to partner with a third party for a killer third party exclusive, and that's exactly what they did. Keep that good work up, Nintendo.

And New Super Mario Brothers. The 3DS game actually got me back into traditional platforming a bit, so I'll likely impulse-buy this game.

  • Runner 2, Little Inferno, and Scribblenauts Unlimited all would make it worth buying the Wii U at launch for me…if they were exclusives. I don't care about Bayonetta or Pikmin 3; wake me up when Smash Bros. comes out.

  • If I do get the Wii U, I'll probably pick up Runner2 and Scribblenauts Unlimited, because Odnetnin said so, and ZombiU, because it is just awesome.

  • If I can quickly save money in time for getting the console a few months after release, I would like to get Bayonetta 2 and ZombieU (if it has decent reviews at best).

  • Lots of games to look forward to. Discounting the downloadables, there's:

    * Bayonetta 2 – my absolute must have
    * The Wonderful 101, Rayman Legends, LEGO City: Undercover, Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper – my other Must-haves
    * Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Tank! Tank! Tank!, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (how many times can they rerelease this game?!), Scribblenauts Unlimited, Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition, Game & Wario, Pikmin 3, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, 007 Legends, Transformers Prime, Darksiders 2, Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, Trine 2: Director’s Cut, and New Super Mario Bros. U – all of my maybes.

It'll be a while before I put down money on a Wii U, though. Tis a shame, but I'll probably have to get most of these games used.

  • All the retreads don't really interest me too much, but if I were picking up a Wii U I'd definitely have to bite (pardon the pun) on ZombiU. It just looks like such an interesting title. Will that translate to 'fun'? Dunno, but I'd love to find out.

And, of course, New Super Mario Bros. It's an old school Mario game at the launch of a Nintendo console! What's not to like?

  • I've come to the conclusion that I won't be buying any Wii U cross-platform games. Either I've already got them on other platforms, or if I were to get them I would rather they go towards my PS3 trophies collection. /

I'm not a trophy hunter by any means (I don't have a single platinum), but after years of growing my collection on both PS3 and now Vita, it's a nice score to have sitting there on my network.

Tank! Tank! Tank! is high on my priority list actually, thanks for reminding me of that one!

  • Most of these games promise additional content (including all updates and DLC, new features, and for some even wholely new areas/levels exclusive to the Wii U version). I personally would prefer to have the best version possible, especially if they're both the same price. I think the only exception is Sonic Kart 2…I mean Sonic All-star Racing Transformed, which I'd only get to fullfill my racing game quota for the system, unless F-Zero is somehow announced before then.

I do know what you mean, though. If any of these games were exactly the same, I'd probably just pick up the PS3 version. I'm sure future games will be like that, at least.

  • I'm still undecided on games, but I am interested in a great number of them (great being more than 2).

ZombiU is one. The Wonderful 101. Tank! Tank! Tank!, LEGO City Undercover………………………..

Rabbids Land, Rayman Legends, New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo Land (thanks to Metroid Blast).

I think I may have to get a game rental subscription…..seriously.

  • considering I still have a huge backlog of Wii games, I'll just pretend that this new one does not exist. hmm, yes, that's a plan. nananananana, can't hear you. seriously, definitely not buying at launch. I suspect my son wants a 3DSXL for christmas, and that's enough "new console" for me.
