Sniper: Ghost Warrior headed to iOS... and using the Unreal Engine!

From Q1 next year, iOS gamers will be able to experience the budding Sniper: Ghost Warrior franchise courtesy of City Interactive.

Sniper isn't the most critically acclaimed FPS on the market, but it does deserve full props for trying to do something different. By focusing on the understated thrills of a successful sniper gun assassination, Sniper tries to be a "thinking man's" FPS, and frankly, we can't think of a more appropriate FPS franchise for the iPad and iPhone.

The FPS genre is a difficult one if you don't have a mouse & keyboard or controller, but the iPad and iPhone's touch screen could indeed be ideal for the Sniper style of gameplay.

The game is in development by Polish developer, Vivid Games. Here's the exciting bit: Sniper: Ghost Warrior will use Epic's Unreal Engine3, so we can expect a very good looking game.

City Interactive is promising that the game will be optimised for the iOS devices, and is a AAA project... so is this the first instance of a must-have iPad FPS? We have our fingers crossed, because sniping is awesome.

In a release, president of Vivid Games, Remigiusz Koscielny, said “Sniping is poetry in slow motion, up until you pull the trigger. The trigger for upcoming iOS game based on well known “Sniper: Ghost Warrior” franchise has been pulled by a two great Polish companies that teamed up to create premium quality sniping game. We’re proud and excited about this project, and we will use our best effort and knowledge to deliver very best, elite military experience on mobile market up to date.”

Them's fighting words, but we'll be downloading it early next year.
