During Gamescom Opening Night Live, Square Enix revealed its second trailer for the upcoming final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The trailer showcases reimagined Superbosses, plus the Summon Typhon and open-world traversal. Six new screenshots were also released. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be released next spring for PC and consoles.
In this new trailer, Weapons are emerging to defend the world. Weapons are enormous guardians who make no distinction between friend and foe; as such, they wreak catastrophic destruction upon the planet and its people. Cloud and his mates will fight them upon desert sands, in mid-air dogfights, and at the bottom of the sea. Some returning Weapons will appear during challenging end-game battles as an homage to their original forms.
The Gamescom trailer also showcases the powerful new Summon Typhon and open-world exploration via parachute, grappling hook and Chocobo mounts, plus Cloud and Tifa in their Warrior and Black Mage FITS. FITS is new to Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The system introduces outfits that reward the wearer with new abilities and greater powers. Specialized roles will evoke classic Final Fantasy jobs.
Here is a description of the game, via Square Enix:
In Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Cloud Strife and his loyal companions face a world that teeters on the brink of annihilation. Grieving a beloved ally, and with their nemesis Sephiroth nearing godhood, the party takes to the skies aboard the airship Highwind in a race against time to stop Meteor, the ultimate destructive magic, and the total obliteration of the planet. The final battle has begun. Everything leads here. Final Fantasy VII Revelation delivers the unforgettable, breathtaking finale to one of the most ambitious projects in video game history and the culmination of 30 years of Final Fantasy VII storytelling.
In the game, the entire planet is freely explorable via the Highwind airship. Players can drop in via parachute anywhere, seamlessly transitioning from air to land. With Meteor descending and the Weapons unleashing terror, the planet’s conflicts are many, and the party will need to divide and conquer. Choose where to go, who to help and in what order as the planet itself fights for survival. Make one last stand alongside a beloved cast of legendary heroes, making decisions along the journey that can impact aspects of their stories. Customize combat by switching between real-time action and Tactical Mode in the series’ acclaimed hybrid battle system, now expanded and perfected with new playable characters and powerful new abilities.
Players with save data from the other two games in the trilogy (on the same platform) will receive special bonuses in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Remake Intergrade players will receive Summon Materia: Chocobo & Moogle. Rebirth players will receive Summon Materia: Phoenix.
Developed and published by Square Enix, Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be released for PC via Steam/Epic/Xbox, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series in spring 2027.
