Not A Cat Studios has announced STARCULT. Night: Twisted Age. The dark fantasy romantic visual novel is set in a world on the brink of disaster, and players must use an Emotion Palette to read others’ true emotions and intentions, influence relationships, and uncover the truth behind a brutal murder. The game has been officially announced for PC, with additional platforms to be announced at a future date.

The story follows Silviya from the noble House Nebula, who is married to its young head, Hans. The marriage isn’t romantic; it was part of a deal. Shortly after the wedding, Hans is murdered, and Silviya calls a detective to investigate. But who is the real monster here?

The heart of STARCULT’s gameplay is the Emotion Palette, a system that allows players to read others’ true emotions and intentions, shaping how the interactions unfold. There is a wide range of choices to influence relationships, outcomes, and the direction of the story. There is also an Emotion Frenzy system, where keeping emotions locked inside unlocks an alternate route involving our dear protagonist going insane.

“The central theme of STARCULT. Night: Twisted Age is how human emotions influence relationships—how people express them, how they interpret them, and how they use them (whether accidentally or intentionally),” says Liliia Sitailo, the artist and CEO of Not A Cat Studios, in a press release. “We decided to present this in an interactive way by adding an Emotion Palette, which players will use as a unique tool for interacting with the game world.”

Here are the game’s key features, from Not A Cat Studios:

  • Make meaningful choices that lead to a variety of unique endings, including Detective, Hedonist, Mystic, Nihilist, Ascended, and secret paths
  • Choose a character to form a relationship with: spicy, romantic, toxic, sadistic, codependent, casual, open, or platonic
  • Read the true emotions and intentions of your friends and enemies using the emotion palette, and influence how they respond
  • Create your own cult and choose its purpose

Developed and published by Not A Cat Studios, STARCULT. Night: Twisted Age will be released for PC and additional platforms.

She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
