The Pokémon Company has announced that free-to-start battle game Pokémon Champions will be released for Nintendo Switch in early April, with a free graphic update for Switch 2 players. The game brings the core Pokémon battle experience to the masses, including Pokémon types and abilities. The company has also revealed new information about returning Pokémon and the starter pack available for purchase.

Several Mega-Evolved Pokémon make an appearance in Pokémon Champions, including Mega Meganium, Mega Emboar and Mega Feraligatr from Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Here is a description of each, via the Pokémon Company:

  • Mega Meganium introduces the new Ability Mega Sol, which lets the Pokémon use its moves as if the weather were harsh sunlight.
  • Mega Emboar’s Mold Breaker allows it to ignore opposing Abilities when using moves.
  • Mega Feraligatr’s new Ability Dragonize converts its Normal‑type moves into Dragon‑type moves and boosts their power by 20%.

The game also supports Pokémon HOME connectivity, allowing players to bring in qualifying Pokémon from previous games in the Pokémon series and Pokémon GO. This integration ensures that Trainers can continue using their longtime partner Pokémon in new battles and events within Pokémon Champions.

Players who purchase the Pokémon Champions + Starter Pack bundle via the Nintendo eShop will get extra storage for their Pokémon, the Battle! (Trainer Battle) song from Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, 30 Teammate Tickets, and 50 Training Tickets. A Premium Battle Pass and Membership will also be available for in-game purchase.

From The Pokémon Company, Pokémon Champions will be released for Nintendo Switch on April 8. Smartphone versions will follow later this year.
