Vertical-scrolling shoot ‘em up Mamorukun ReCurse! is getting a modern remaster, and Clear River Games announced today that it would publish the game in the West simultaneously with its Japanese launch. This updated version also includes all previously released DLC. The announcement was made through a brand-new, bullet-soaked trailer for the cute-em-up game.
Mamorukun ReCurse! puts players in the role of Mamoru, who wakes up in the Netherworld following his death. He quickly meets three new friends, one of whom explains that these four are the only hope to stop the incoming invasion of darkness. The game is set in breathtaking environments that come complete with bizarre creatures. Bullets will fly as players attempt to seal the gate to the World of Darkness.
While the game features mellow aesthetics, the gameplay is anything but. Players can make use of Curse Bullets to alter the game’s difficulty by wiping out small enemies, clearing projectiles, or powering up large enemies, making them more difficult to defeat. High risk, high reward. Or maybe I should say: high risk, high score.
Mamorukun ReCurse!’s features, from a press release, include:
- An arcade classic, ReCursed! for modern platforms.
- Widescreen support and modern twin-stick controls.
- Use Curse Bullets to adjust the game’s difficulty on the fly!
- Story Mode, Arcade Mode, or Netherworld Adventures — a set of challenge courses to sharpen your skills? The choice is yours!
- Multiple characters, alternate costumes, and an extensive Gallery Mode!
- Original compositions by Yosuke Yasui, plus arranged music from previous releases.
Developed by City Connection, Mamorukun ReCurse! is self-published in Japan and published in the West by Clear River Games and Limited Run Games (physical versions). The game will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series on September 25.
