A February 2026 release date has been announced for the highly anticipated latest entry in the Nioh series, Nioh 3. It will launch for PC and PlayStation 5. Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo have also revealed a new story trailer for the game. Directed by Shinji Higuchi, it showcases the story, along with providing details on characters and game systems.
In the game, players take on the role of Tokugawa Takechiyo, who is poised to become the next Shogun during Japan’s turbulent Sengoku period. Takechiyo’s younger brother, Kunimatsu, lives in the shadows and is consumed by hatred regarding his brother’s position. He plots to overthrow him, and once empowered by a sinister force, he leads a horde of yokai in an assault on Takechiyo. This ends the era of peace and plunges Japan into hell. Takechiyo, guided by the mysterious power of his guardian spirit, transcends time to survive a kingdom in dire straits and become shogun.

The story of Nioh 3 will unfold on a larger scale than ever before in series history. Covering various eras and regions, including Edo Castle and the Tōtōmi region during the Sengoku period, which players were able to explore in the Alpha demo, as well as the recently unveiled Kyoto, the capital of the Heian period. Players will be able to freely explore each era in open-field experience, featuring beautiful and distinct environments. During his perilous quest to foil his brother’s conspiracy, Takechiyo will face various yokai and other powerful enemies, while taking on the challenge of the Crucible.
During their journey, players will encounter various characters from different eras including Takeda Shingen, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, and Minamoto no Yoritomo. Other well-known figures familiar to fans will cross paths with Tokugawa Takechiyo, including Hattori Hanzo, Honda Tadakatsu, and Saito Fuku. Actors Tao Tsuchiya and Kanata Hongo will also be lending their talents in Nioh 3 as Himiko, the mysterious queen of Yamatai-koku, and Kunimatsu Tokugawa respectively. Nioh 3 will be available digitally in both a standard edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. The Digital Deluxe edition includes the base game, the digital pre-order bonuses (a Hellfire Warrior Armor set, a Hellfire Ninja Attire set, and a Scampuss Furball Netsuke Charm accessory), two bonuses exclusive to this edition (an Infernal Weapons Set with 14 types and a Kodama Netsuke Charm accessory), two add-on DLCs, and a season pass bonus of a Chijiko Netsuke Charm accessory. The season pass can also be purchased, including the two DLCs and the bonus accessory. Physically, a SteelBook edition comes with the base game and two exclusive bonus DLCs.
Developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo, Nioh 3 will be released for PC via Steam and PlayStation 5 on February 6, 2026.
