Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio just held its first dedicated Western broadcast, the RGG Like a Dragon Direct. The entire video can be viewed here, but for now I’m going to focus on news from the stream about Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. The release date was announced, alongside pre-order bonuses and a couple of big names lending their voices to the title. There’s also a new story trailer and a new gameplay trailer.

The game is set in both Japan and Hawaii, the series’ first overseas location. Fate brings together two larger-than-life heroes in Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu. Or is it something more sinister? Kasuga is an unstoppable underdog who is no stranger from crawling up from rock bottom. Kiryu is a broken man facing down his last days.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is an RPG with deep combat, quality-of-life refinements, and improved gameplay that favours speed and strategy. The party now has full freedom of movement while fighting, so players can strategically position characters to take down foes effectively. The one-of-a-kind combat is showcased in dynamic, fast-paced battles where the battlefield is a weapon… and anything goes. Players can adapt their party’s skills to suit the situation at hand with outlandish jobs and customisations to strategically subdue enemies using over-the-top moves.

Here is the gameplay trailer:

The game is available as Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate Editions. The Deluxe Edition includes the game and the Master Vacation Bundle. The Ultimate Edition includes the game, the Master Vacation Bundle, the Assorted Outfit Bundle, the Sujimon & Resort Bundle, and a Yakuza CD collection set. Those who pre-order will receive a Hero’s Booster Pack that increases party members’ level and job rank by 1, and the Special Job Set that includes one male and one female job (the male job is Linebacker, the female job is Tennis Ace).

Finally, casting news! Danny Trejo has been cast as Dwight, leader of the Barracudas, who supervises the largest counterfeit goods market in the world. And Daniel Dae Kim has been cast as Masataka Ebina, the ruthless captain of a yakuza syndicate.

Developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be released for PC via Steam/Microsoft, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, and Xbox One on January 26, 2024. It will be available both physically and digitally; digital pre-orders are now open.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
