The 24 Games of Christmas! Day #13: Billion Road

It’s the big countdown! Just as you pull out your advent calendars to count down the 24 days to Christmas, so too are we going to count down in our own way, by highlighting 24 games that you could play this month to get into the spirit of the season.

Christmas means different things to different people, but we see it as a time to get together with family and friends, relax after a long year’s hard work (and, given this is 2020, it was an especially hard year), enjoy good food and good company. It’s a good time to knock off that epic RPG you’ve had sitting in the backlog, or crack open the beers (or eggnog) and get stuck into the local multiplayer battles.

Each day we’ll highlight one game that you could have a great time playing over the Christmas season. It’s not a countdown, nor is it a “best of” list. It’s not highlighting new games, nor old. It’s just 24 games, one per day, that we love the idea of breaking into over the season. Have a great and happy season, everyone!

Game #13: Billion Road

Christmas and the holidays is the perfect time for board games. You’ll have family and friends over. You’ll have beers, wines, spirits and other such fun drinks. You’ll all be relaxed and in a good mood. And, most of all, you’ll have time. Time to sit down and play games together without having to worry about getting up for work the next day. Time to commit to a game that might last a few hours rather than a few minutes.

Billion Road is one of the better, and more social, digital board games out there. It’s all-ages fun, with a simple set of rules that anyone can learn quickly, so you can get everyone in and playing quickly without having to “teach” them first. It’s also colourful, quirky, and plays out at a relaxed pace, so you can chat, get rounds of drinks between turns, and otherwise enjoy the social side of board games.
And, while it’s not a hyper-competitive board game, there are some ways to sabotage and mess with other people’s games, and those tend to be hilarious. Like I said. The perfect Christmas party game.
