A mind-blowing piece on the failings of Kickstarter

It’s not often that I create a post on Digitally Downloaded for the sole purpose of linking folks to another Website’s article (in fact, this is the first time I’ve done this), but I consider the following story essential reading for anyone who is interested in the games industry:

Dragged Kickstarting and Screaming

There’s a lot said about the benefits of Kickstarter and how it’s going to change the way games are funded. While it’s true to an extent (it is a possible avenue to secure funding), I think people need to temper that enthusiasm with a simple understanding that it’s not a magical cure to funding woes.

Hopefully this piece helps clarify for people some of the very real problems for Kickstarter projects from the “behind the scenes” perspective.

This is the bio under which all legacy DigitallyDownloaded.net articles are published (as in the 12,000-odd, before we moved to the new Website and platform). This is not a member of the DDNet Team. Please see the article's text for byline attribution.
