Escape the Baby Alarm is a strange, heartfelt puzzle game inspired by parenthood. In it, everyday life slips into escape room-inspired puzzles. Developer and illustrator Julie Normann Bjørnskov announced that the game will launch this November, featuring 17 chapters and 38 puzzles. Instead of recreating parenthood, the developer turns its emotions, strange moments, and chaos into surreal scenes and playful puzzles. For example, a feeling of being overwhelmed or finding tiny joy in a tiny victory can become a room, a visual joke, or an entire puzzle.
The art is entirely hand-drawn and scattered with personal touches. It’s influenced by Cartoon Network, Miyazaki films, and 1990s nostalgia and technology.
Humour plays an important part in Escape the Baby Alarm. It helps tell the more difficult parts of the story while looking at them from a different perspective. Something that seems exhausting can become funny with a little distance. The developer wants parents and non-parents alike to enjoy solving the puzzles and being surprised—emotional, even.
Here are the game’s key features, via Yotsuba Interactive:

“Escape the Baby Alarm is probably the most personal project I’ve ever made,” says Julie Normann Bjørnskov in a press release. “Becoming a parent changed me completely. In many ways, it felt like my own rebirth, in my personal life but also in my career. I felt this burning need to tell that story, and I felt that a game was the most complete way I could tell it. Through the interactive elements and puzzles, I could give the player the opportunity not just to watch the story, but to actually be a part of it. In the end, Escape the Baby Alarm is my tribute to all the parents out there.”
Developed by Julie Normann Bjørnskov and published by Yotsuba Interactive, Escape the Baby Alarm will be released for iOS/Android and PC via Steam on November 24.
