First released in Japan last February, NIS America has announced the Western launch date for pixel action RPG Cladun X3: it will launch for PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch late next month. In the game, villains have been summoned to Arcanus Cella for a death game in the name of achieving world peace. (I know, right?!) Players take on the role of one of those villains, trying to become the ultimate evil. Venture into mysterious and dangerous dungeons that come complete with monsters and deadly traps.

In the Cladun series, everything from characters to weapons to music can be customized. In Cladun X3, players choose from six weapon types and ten jobs, then recruit custom characters and use their power to enhance the unit with the Magic Circle System.

Here are the game’s features, as described by NIS America:

  • Pixel Power: Hack, slash, and spell your way to villainous victory in floors teeming with monsters and traps! Conquer the death game in the story mode, and test your mettle in randomly-generated Ran-geons filled with untold treasures.
  • Your Dungeon, Your Rules: Customize practically every aspect of your Cladun experience from A to Z! Create your own characters, weapons, towns—even music!
  • Form a Circle: A Magic Circle, that is! In this system unique to the Cladun series, inactive party members can be assigned to formations to provide stat boosts and abilities to a single player-controlled character. Plus, they’ll also serve as handy meat shields in battle!

Developed by Nippon Ichi Software and published by NIS America, Cladun X3 will be released digitally for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on September 26.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
