Known games! New games! Lots of games!

From what I’ve seen, I’m not the only one disappointed in yesterday’s PlayStation Showcase (my recap here). I have higher hopes from Marvelous’ presentation, though! (Not that that’s saying much.) In advance, we knew that announcements would include new entries from long-running franchises as well as all-new titles. Members from the development teams will also make an appearance to share their thoughts on what they’re working on right now. I’ve chosen three games specifically to highlight, but watching the whole showcase (it’s about a half-hour long) is well worth it!

Fashion Dreamer

Marvelous goes in a new direction with Fashion Dreamer. It is what it sounds like: players play dress up. Constantly. There’s an in-game social media aspect to it as well. Likes make us feel good. The more you receive, the more widespread your brand. If you see a rare item and like it, you’ll receive it! So getting likes and sharing likes are both important. Players can create and share items endlessly, creating a real-world aspect as well.

Story of Seasons (Untitled)

Story of Seasons began life in 1996 (as Harvest Moon, it’s a long story) and has over 30 titles in the series to date. Players run farms, raise crops, grow animals, make friends, all while the seasons change. Live a wholesome, heartwarming life in the next instalment, currently untitled. New experiences are coming, preserving cherished elements while creating a more entertaining farming experience. Extra effort has put into the visual presentation of the farm and surrounding natural environments.

Rune Factory: Project Dragon

Rune Factory was created in 2006 as a Story of Seasons spin-off, but has found its own footing in the world. It combines farming/ranching with RPG elements. There are nine games in the mainline series to date, but Project Dragon is more like a spin-off (described as “unique from the main series”). It’s set in the east with a Japanese-style aesthetic new to the series. Characters have referred to the east in past titles, and we’re finally going there. The protagonist is an Earthmate, people who are bound to dragons by destiny. The game should keep the elements we know and love, just jazz it up a bit.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
