Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale Hits Xbox LIVE

Atari Games has had a somewhat shaky track record as of the last few years, especially in the downloadable department – But the latest D & D might do a lot to fix all that.

Looking like a little bit Torchlight and a little bit Baldur’s Gate (got your attention?) D&D: Daggerdale is looking like it’s bringing a tried and true formula to the table that should please LIVE gamers.

Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale, a hack and slash action role playing game set in the deep mythology of the Forgotten Realms, is the first Dungeons & Dragons video game for connected consoles. Players are summoned by a mysterious mage and given the duty of defending their homeland as Rezlus, an evil Zhentarim Cleric looks to bring the power of the Black Lord Bane to Daggerdale. Restore order to the Dalelands by unlocking the secrets of the Mines of Tethyamar, defeating the evil within the treacherous Tower of the Void, leading to the final confrontation with Rezlus himself.

This is the first title in a planned trilogy and has a lot of the usual trappings of the action/RPG genre. In typical fashion, you can play as a Dwarf, a Human, an Elf, or a Mage and (also typical) this will indeed be a loot fest. But there’s also a healthy focus on co-op play with up to four players supported over LIVE ( so that’s a little different) and a pair of adventurers with a split-screen,- and don’t worry rogues, single player will work just fine as well.

The game looks really nice and if they can pull off gameplay that matches the sharp graphics, Atari might have a winner in the ‘Dales.

Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale is available now on Xbox LIVE for 1200pts.

(and, while you’re in the mood for D & D stuff, why not check out the board game?)
