Nighttime in the Forlorn Arena of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak's first free update.

Last month, there was a big paid update for Monster Hunter Rise. Titled Sunbreak, added new monsters, quests, weapons, armour, story, and hunts to the base game. Now it’s time for its first update, labelled as Free Title Update 1. This update includes four new monsters, an expansion to the Anomaly Quest system, and increased challenges and rewards. It was previously announced that this update would includes two new monsters, Lucent Nargacuga and Seething Bazelgeuse, but now it’s time to expand on that a bit.

Monster Hunter Rise is the latest in the long-running, fan-favourite Monster Hunter series. Become a hunter, explore new maps, and use fancy weapons to take down fearsome monsters (both new and old). There are 14 weapon types that offer different gameplay styles. Killing monsters provides materials that can be used for crafting. The Sunbreak DLC specifically comes in at the end of the Rampage, when the Hunter is being praised for being a hero. Unfortunately, the calm is short-lived.

Alongside all of the Title Update 1 things (below), new Event Quests will start rolling out every week, beginning on August 18. There will also be super difficult Dual Threat hunts. Fiorayne fans get lucky, as new DLC options will be added for layered armour, hairstyles, stickets, BGM, and NPC costumes. Here’s the trailer to show off what’s coming tomorrow:

Lucent Nargacuga hasn’t been seen since Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate back in 2013. It refracts moonlight off of its fur to become nearly invisible, minus its red eyes. It attacks relentlessly and quickly, making it difficult to beat for even the most experienced hunters. Lucent Nargacuga lives in the Forlorn Arena, with crumbling stones buildings and colonnades. It isn’t the only new monster that’s hard to see, though; Seething Bazelgeuse is an airborne menace that tends to appear at the worst of times. It has explosive scales, creating some big kabooms. Finally, we get to the new bit: Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos will also be included in Title Update 1. They are rare subspecies, more ferocious than their counterparts.

When it comes to the Anomaly Research Quest system, it’s being expanded. A new five-star rating has been unlocked, including new afflicted monsters such as Lunagaron and Magma Almudron; they can be unlocked through the new Anomaly Investigation Quests. These quests offer random quest conditions. The higher the difficulty, the better the rewards (including new materials). If you’re looking for something specific, head to Bahrari the Scientist’s new Anomaly Research Lab to exchange items gained through Anomaly Investigations.

Developed and published by Capcom, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is now available for PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch. Title Update 1 will be released on August 10, 2022.
