Kickstarter update: The book is successful!

News by Matt S.

As most of you will know, Digitally Downloaded has been running a Kickstarter to publish a major project; a book that takes the topic of games as works of art seriously and is to feature in-depth interviews with some of the industry's finest artists. Well, today I have one very small piece of bad news, and one very big piece of great news.

The bad news first: Within the next 24 hours I will be taking this Kickstarter project down.

But wait! The very good news: The book is going to be published. A small specialist publisher in the US, No Starch Press ( is going to print and distribute the completed The Interactive Canvas. No Starch produces truly excellent, premium-quality coffee table-style books on a range of different hobbies (especially LEGO. For a brilliant example:, and this project will be a very good fit for their area of specialty.

In fact, it means the book is going to be even bigger and better. With a publisher, we're going to be able to instead produce a book of 320 pages in length, so we really are going to be able to make the definitive art games book. It does mean that the book will be delayed slightly (we expect December 2014), but the end product will be worth the wait.

I would like to personally thank everyone that backed the project - your support has been truly incredible, and it makes me really, really glad to know that I am going to be able to deliver the book that you wanted to read.

To all the backers please check the Kickstarter page; there's a backers-only message that explains how I'm keen to personally send you your copy of the book as a thank you for your support.

For everyone; in the weeks and months ahead we will be providing regular updates on the progress of the book. You can also sign up to our weekly newsletter for even more regular updates.

This book is going to be wonderful - I can't wait for you to read it!
