I have been waiting for this announcement with bated breath, and it has been a while coming from the Japanese release, but it’s finally happening: Onee Chanbara Origin is coming to the west, and will launch on PC and PlayStation 4 on October 14.

Onee Chanbara Origin is a complete remake of the original game with an appealing new cel-shaded art style, and a number of features designed to make it both more accessible for newcomers, and more visceral for veterans.

It promises to be a very high-paced action brawler, with plenty of gore to go with the very undressed character designs. “Why do they wear bikinis?” I hear you ask. They just do, and what a silly question to ask. As the zombie blood splatters all over their uncovered bodies, these girls build up a meter which eventually allows them to transform into super-powerful demons to unleash a whole new kind of hell.

The series has always revelled in its B-grade horror roots, and has always played in kind, but this one does look like the most refined and well-made game to go with the delightful fanservice themes. I can’t wait, and given that the game is out in about a month, I won’t have to wait long at all.
