Developed by Tokyo RPG Factory (I Am Setsuna, Lost Sphear), and published by Square Enix, Oninaki is one really good looking retro-themed JRPG, from one of the up-and-coming leaders in that particular aesthetic. The full game isn’t out until August 22, but you’ll be able to get a taste of the game right now thanks to a demo that is live on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (soon).
The demo offers up a story mode, which allows you to play the opening chapter of the game, as well as a battle mode, where you can get a feel for what the later stage combat is like with a much more powerful character, squaring off against much more powerful enemies.
Of course, any progress made in the story mode can be carried across to the full game. Based on the heritage of the developer, this is going to be one well worth looking forward to for that story.
There’s also a new trailer in Japanese to enjoy (don’t worry, the demo is global and in English).
