The 24 games of Christmas! Game #24: Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack

It’s that time of year again! The decorations are out, the house smells of Christmas thanks to the tree in the living room, presents are sitting under the tree and all the good food is on the table. We do love Christmas at DDNet, and as always, we’re doing an advent calendar of our own on the site. Each day we’re going to list one game that’s just perfect to play over the Christmas season, so be sure to check back each day to get all the gaming suggestions you’ll need for the season.

Game #24: Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack

My favourite Christmas-themed games are those hiding in plain sight. Sure, we’ve mentioned full-on celebrations like Xmas Shooting – Scramble!!, which used the holidays as a theme for the game itself. We looked at Fire Emblem Heroes, which highlighted Christmas alongside other iconic holidays like Halloween. But who would’ve prophesied that Azure Striker Gunvolt, with its serious Mega Man-esque action and commentary on idol culture, would embrace the festivities wholeheartedly?

Yet if you turn on your Switch copy of Azure Striker Gunvolt today or tomorrow, you’ll be in for a treat. We’re talking an exclusive mode with seasonal music and reinvented gameplay involving the acquisition of presents. It’s aesthetically refreshing and alters the way you’d typically approach the game. All of the sudden we’ve got Christmas Nights 2.0 on our hands; an ambitious, full-fledged festival for the holidays that only becomes playable when the hour draws near.

If you aren’t able to play Christmas Gunvolt in time, don’t despair. Slap a gorgeous wallpaper from the developers on your desktop to get in on the joy of free stuff.

Enjoy your Christmas Eve!
