Finding Dory gets the Crossy Road treatment

With its latest update, Hipster Whale’s Disney Crossy Road adds a handful of new characters and a level from Finding Dory. This comes as little surprise considering the last update was all about Alice Through The Looking Glass; another tie-in seemed inevitable. But if I can’t have a level for Finding Nemo, Finding Dory is a darn good second choice. The level is a pixellated ocean floor, filled with various undersea creatures (and oh so many jellyfish). The best part of the update is less obvious: when you are choosing (or purchasing) a character, the game will tell you explicitly if they have any skill that will come in handy during play. There’s also a lot of Wreck-It Ralph (you’ll even find him invading levels other than his own) to advertise the the film’s newly-announced sequel.

Upcoming Layers of Fear DLC shines the spotlight on someone new

I absolutely loved Layers of Fear, and have revisited the game several times in the past six months since writing the preview and the review. The game is eerie, terrifying without extreme amounts of gore, and psychologically disturbing. Now I need to prepare myself once again, as Bloober Team has announced Layers of Fear: Inheritance, DLC coming on August 2. The story shifts to that of the painter’s daughter as she returns to her childhood home to face her tragic past. Following the path set forth in the original game, there are two unique endings depending on how you play.

The Banner Saga 2 now on Xbox One

The Banner Saga 2 celebrated an acclaimed launch on PC and Mac earlier this year, and has now set its sights on Xbox One. Players on the console will get an exclusive passive ability boost called Tome of X, a catalogue of pastimes, competitions, and puzzles. PlayStation players, your launch isn’t too far behind: expect The Banner Saga 2 on July 5. PlayStation Plus members will receive a discount on the game or a bundle containing the original and the sequel. Xbox Live Gold subscribers, however, can get The Banner Saga completely free of charge during the month of July. It’s an interesting tactic, that’s for sure. We’ll see how it plays out.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius now available worldwide

As promised, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is now available for everyone! The game already touts 6.5 million Japanese players, and they can’t all be wrong. I’ve already wracked up about a dozen hours in two days on the free-to-play mobile game that is both a full-scale Final Fantasy story combined with the social aspects of Record Keeper. I’ll have a review up soon enough, but in the meantime I’m not sure why you’re still reading this. Seriously. Go now.

Why are you still here?!

Does any of this news tickle your fancy or make you steaming mad? Let us know in the comments! And meet us again next week for a new edition of Catch-up coffee Monday.
