Here's a trailer for Yooka-Laylee

News by Matt S.

Yooka-Laylee is a real darling of Kickstarter. Promising a spiritual sequel to the Banjo-Kazooie series, Yooka-Laylee raised a huge amount of money over Kickstarter, and picked up the interest of a publisher to boot, with Team 17 snapping it up.

With E3 just around the corner, Team 17 has launched a trailer for the game, and as you'd expect this is one bright and cheerful looking 3D platformer. There's also plenty of nods to Rare's games of the past; there's a minecart section, for example, that looks just like the Donkey Kong games of old.

With a publisher behind the game I've got a lot more faith in it than when it was a Kickstarter-funded project alone. The additional resources and expertise of a team like Team 17 should help refine the experience and make sure it gets out the door okay.

So enjoy the trailer, and look forward to some more news on the game come E3 time. Yooka-Laylee was originally due for a 2016 release, but the developers decided to push it back a couple of months. We're now due for release in 2017, with a Q1 release window.
