It’s the news that is making the gaming world ecstatic: Koei Tecmo is making a game based on The Heroic Legend of Arslan. Yes, the story you’re already familiar with is being combined with Koei Tecmo’s infamous Warriors series for Arslan: the Warriors of Legend. Time for our unofficial phrase of sheer joy and excitement: ohboyohboyohboy!

First, the official trailer:

For those unfamiliar with the story, the Heroic Legend of Arslan was originally a novella in the 1980s and has since spawned into several adaptations (including the 2013 manga series by Hiromu Arakawa, creator of Fullmetal Alchemist). It is the story of Arslan, a young prince forced out of his kingdom when his father is betrayed who needs to fight to return to his throne. Along the way, the tale examines issues such as slavery, religious fanaticism, betrayal, and humanity.

Koei Tecmo’s adaptation of the story combines it with the fast-paced gameplay we’ve come to expect from the Warrior series. The cell-shaded graphics and character design are based on Awakawa’s series. Four playable characters have been revealed: Arslan, Daryun (a cavalry commander), Narsus (a strategist), and Elam (Narsus’ squire).

Arslan: the Warriors of Legend is expected to drop early next year for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Keep your eyes peeled here for more information as it becomes available!
