Dragon Quest meets Minecraft. Yes, really, it’s a thing

Square Enix really does take risks with Dragon Quest. Whereas Final Fantasy has always been carefully controlled and curated, Dragon Quest has seen MMOs, Pokemon clones, Warriors games, a board game in collaboration with Mario, an on-rails shooter, a little digital tactics game on the DSiWare platform. And, now, Dragon Quest is doing a Minecraft.

Dragon Quest Builders is in development for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. There’s not much information at this stage, just that it’s clearly drawing inspiration from Minecraft. The art style is absolutely beautiful, too.

No announcement that it will be localised in English, of course, and Dragon Quest games are hit and miss for localisations, but fingers crossed, because if there’s one thing that could one-up Minecraft, it’s Minecraft with slimes.
