SteamWorld Heist’s 3DS screens show it will probably be the superior version

Image & Form has released 3DS-specific screenshots of its upcoming cross-many-platforms 2D strategy game, SteamWorld Heist. One look at them will be enough to convince you that this will be the superior version.

As you can see from the screenshots below, SteamWorld Heist on the 3DS makes heavy use of the 3DS’ dual screen set up. The action takes place on the top screen, while the bottom offers a map, character statistics, and other critical information in planning and executing on strategy.

Given how important this information on the bottom screen should be to a strategy game, we can only assume that on single screen platforms (the game is also coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation Vita and mobile) players will need to flick between menus regularly, or alternatively the main screen will become cluttered with additional information. With the 3DS – and Wii U – version, players will get to enjoy the rich art work on the top screen, while not having to wade through menus and the like to get all the information they need: it’s all there on the touch screen.

This is one of those indie games that we can’t wait to get our hands on when it releases later this year. SteamWorld Dig was one of our favourite indie games across multiple platforms last year, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the developer can do to expand the fledgling universe that it has going on.

In the meantime, enjoy the screens!
