Double Fine raises $1 million for new project

Written By Arnar Leví on Friday, February 10, 2012 | 12:16

Double Fine Productions have managed to raise over a million dollars in less than 24 hours for their new crowd funded game project. They surpassed their original goal of $400.000 in just over 8 hours which was the estimated cost of making the game and producing a documentary about the project.

The Kickstarter Page for the project states that any extra funding will put back into the game and documentary and would be used to port the game to more platforms, make more languages available, more music and voice-over, original soundtrack for the documentary and more.

Tim Schafer, founder and head of Double Fine, revealed on tweeted that this is a record for most funds raised in the first 24 hours on Kickstarter and the highest number of backers of all time.

The people have spoken and they say adventure games are not dead. This astounding success represents a new way for game studios to fund their games for developers who already have a loyal fanbase. This was made possible by the fact that Double Fine has been making quality games for years and Tim Schafer is off course a celebrated game designer with titles like The Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango under his belt.

It will be interesting to see how much money Double Fine will be able to raise. With 33 days left and donations show no signs of slowing down at the moment we wouldn't be surprised if they manage to raise another million.

Review: Football Manager Handheld 2012 (iPad)

Football Manager has been around for quite a long time now. Originally starting off in 1992 on the PC as the Championship Manager series by Eidos, followed by an eventual rechristening by Sega in 2005 to the name Football Manager, the simulation series placed a much greater emphasis on the role of a manager in football.

Review: Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword (3DS eShop)

Nintendo seems driven to provide the eShop with quality games to the point where the developers are personally concocting more new franchises in one go than they have in years. The latest in the line of quirky downloadable games, Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword opts for something more adventurous than the others and, for the most part, succeeds.

Review: GameSculpt 3D (iPad)

Written By Matt Sainsbury on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 | 18:17

There is quite possibly one piece of software left missing from the iPad before it will consume my life permanently: RPG Maker. Being able to make my own games on the go with the iPad, and hopefully with the ability to share my creations with others would be an enormously addictive experience, and the touch screen would make game design a snap.

Review: A Gay Dragon (iPhone)

Are you looking for a quest for true love while overcoming jealous dragons and vengeful princesses? A Gay Dragon focuses on Melwin’s quest to find true love, in the form of a prince. Located in a castle, every level requires you to direct Melwin to the prince and return to your lair. The game screams Chu Chu Rocket, but that isn’t a bad thing at all – you’ll drop down arrows on the play field, which Melwin will then follow as he wanders around the level. It’s an elegant system, and it works.
