Van Helsing is a bit of a re-imagining of the legendary vampire hunter (and has nothing to do with Hugh Jackman). The starring character is actually the original Drac-killers son and the world he inhabits is a riff on 19th century Europe. Oh, and there's monsters.
Set in a gothic-noir universe resembling a fantastical 19th century Europe filled with monsters, magic, and weird technology, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing will follow the son of the famed hunter, known in-game as Van Helsing, in a tale wrought with wry humor and snappy dialogue. Van Helsing, a larger-than-life hero possessing a dark yet romantic charm, will follow his path to the dismal land of Borgovia where former supernatural foes have enlisted his help to defeat a new scourge terrorizing the ravaged Eastern European city. With an assortment of extraordinary characters, an engrossing storyline, and a beautifully dark and gothic art style, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing looks to bring RPG enthusiasts an anachronistic adventure like no other. With the release of the new screens today, we finally get to see what the game looks like in all it's actual gameplay glory. It's a little stunning (and kinda cool) how closely the title resembles Diablo.
From the isometric viewpoint down to the character gages and inventory panels on the bottom of the screen- NeocoreGames' new action title really strikes that familiar chord. Even the enemy life bars are almost the same as the classic action/RPG!
It's not really to say that this is a bad thing either. Diablo works as a formula for a reason- it's been very carefully thought out. If The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing plays anywhere near as good (granted, that's gonna be a long shot) then we might be in for a treat.
Look for all the hot stakin' action to hit Xbox Live and the PC this Fall.
